The ferry crossing went quickly. We cruised from Harwich to the Hoek Van Holland in a little over 6 hours on the largest ferry in Europe.
It was very quiet, with maybe only 20 cars and some foot passengers. After our early start, Andrew and I shared sleep / down time with looking after the babies. With the ferry being practically empty, it wasn’t hard finding a place to lie down.

As we finished an expensive Stena lunch (which we vowed not too buy but did), I turned to someone calling my name. It was Elspeth Campbell and her family sitting near us!
I had met Elspeth 11 years ago at an NNN camp. What a shock seeing someone I know with less than 50 passengers on board! She was with her husband Keith and 2 sons and we spent the next 3 hours chatting and laughing. Holland and Jonathon had us in stitches with the photo warp and Jonathon had the girls mesmerised with his magic.
On arriving at the Gaasper Camp Site, we were dismayed when they said they were ‘full’. We had no diesel and it was nearing 19.00hrs. An English man came out to us and explained that many campsites around Europe don’t accept twin axle caravans. We’ve a feeling this may be a problem where ever we are in Europe.
He suggested a campsite called Zeeburg where we are now. It’s rather a stoners paradise; so we’ll just have to not take the philosophy of When in Rome!!
24.9.10 - Saturday
We spent the day with my Dutch friend Marjolein, her partner Frank and their 4 year old twin boys Brum and Dan. I met Marjolein when I was 12 at a PGL camp. We became great friends and pen-friends. I visited her here in the Nederlands and she came with me to Vancouver one year.
I have all Marjolein’s letters and photos still. We wrote to each other for years. I wish pen-friends were a thing of today.
The Schotte family treated us to Blijburger Beer, which was delicious and oh my goodness, how good was the fresh bread with aioli.
That night we all dined on home made curry at Zeeburg campsite avec l'air de marijuana.
